FEATURES
EXTENSIVELY TESTED AND SUSTAINABLE
The Wedeco K series is a proven, energy-efficient UV solution for the disinfection of drinking water at large facilities whenever a closed-vessel UV system is preferred.
Xylem's Wedeco K series has demonstrated its ability with many installations worldwide for drinking water.
The K series UV system has also been extensively tested to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s UV Disinfection Guidance Manual (USEPA’s UVDGM, 2006). The extensive validation allows for proven disinfection performance over a wide range of UV transmittance (UVT) values and a variety of target organisms including Adenovirus.
Additionally the sensor-controlled OptiDose monitors operating conditions in real time, including flow, UV transmittance, and UV intensity. Then, with proven control logic, OptiDose adjusts the energy consumption to the minimum needed to meet dosing requirements. No assumptions are made regarding process parameters, ensuring cost savings and disinfection confidence at all times.
As a purely physical disinfection solution and 100% chemical free, UV does not carry the risk of forming harmful by-products, such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs).
Replacing chlorine with UV reduces handling and transportation risks of chemicals, avoiding dangers for both plant operators and the environment. Xylem's Wedeco Ecoray lamps used by the K series also have reduced mercury content and consume less energy, further reducing the carbon footprint.
HIGH EFFICIENCY AND MODULARITY
For improved economics and maximum sustainability, the K series employ Wedeco low-pressure, high-output, amalgam Ecoray UV lamps and ballasts. Used in combination with the variable power option, the Ecoray technology results in excellent energy efficiency under all operating conditions. Particularly in dimmed mode, they realize average energy savings of up to 20% compared to existing technologies.
The K series UV system can be supplied with any number of rows from 2 to 13, allowing the best design tailored to the necessary flow range. In addition, the system can be installed indoors or outdoors, with various control modes, cabinet types, and SCADA communication types. The K series can be easily customized to match specific site requirements by either supplying the vessel with room for more rows, or by adding flanges to allow more rows to be added at a later date. The control cabinet can be placed indoors or outdoors even at high ambient temperatures with an optional stainless steel enclosure and air conditioning.
The Wedeco K series UV system maximizes operator usability with minimum maintenance. The controller unifies all sensor signals, alarms, SCADA connectivity, and OptiDose closed loop control for easy monitoring and control. An offline cleaning system keeps the sleeves clean, minimizing manual cleaning effort, and Ecoray UV lamps come with a 14,000 h lamp life guarantee, reducing lamp maintenance.
Wedeco was founded in 1975 in Herford, Germany to develop chemical-free and environmentally friendly water treatment technologies, including ultraviolet light and ozone systems. There are more than 250,000 installed Wedeco systems for UV disinfection and ozone oxidation globally in private, public utility and industrial locations. Wedeco introduced ozone technology in 1988 and has been expanding internationally ever since. UV disinfection systems have a number of applications including water treatment and aquaculture. Ozone disinfection systems have applications in drinking water, wastewater, process water, product polishing, bleaching, ozonolysis / synthesis and deodorization.
